Use Amap (高德地图)

For most travelers in mainland China, Amap is one of the most useful local navigation tools.

Use it for walking, metro planning, buses, building entrances, driving routes and ride-hailing pickup points.

Save the Chinese name

For every important destination, save:

English name + Chinese name + map pin

Examples:

• Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)
• Temple of Heaven (天坛)
• Chengdu East Railway Station (成都东站)

Metro exits matter

Large stations can have many exits.

Check the recommended exit before leaving the paid area.

Chongqing requires extra attention

Chongqing (重庆) is highly three-dimensional.

Two places that appear close on a flat map can sit on different elevations, road levels and pedestrian routes.
