What is a minsu?
Minsu (民宿, Mínsù) can describe guesthouses, boutique lodging, family-run accommodation, villas, converted historic houses and apartment-style stays.
Why choose one?
A minsu can offer more atmosphere, distinctive architecture, scenic locations, host interaction and larger rooms or shared spaces.
Ask three questions before booking
1. Can you check in with a foreign passport?
2. How will accommodation registration be handled?
3. Where can a taxi or DiDi drop me?
Historic areas and luggage
In destinations such as Lijiang Old Town (丽江古城), the final approach to a property may involve stone roads, stairs or pedestrian-only lanes.
Best use
A minsu is often most rewarding when:
the accommodation itself is part of the destination.
