HANDBOOK  /  PART 9  /  HEALTH

Air quality and weather health in China

Weather is often the bigger issue

Health conditions can vary greatly by region, season and elevation.

Heat

Hot and humid summers can affect cities including Shanghai (上海), Chongqing (重庆) and Guangzhou (广州).

Cold

Winter in northern China can be severe.

For Harbin (哈尔滨), proper winter clothing is not optional.

Sun at altitude

High-altitude destinations can have intense ultraviolet exposure even when the air feels cool.

Air quality

If you are sensitive to pollution, check current local AQI, reduce strenuous outdoor activity during poor conditions and consider a well-fitting particulate mask.

Severe weather

Depending on region and season, travel can be affected by typhoons, heavy rain, snow and extreme heat.
